Grunauer represents the first Midwest venture for Chef Peter Grunauer, whose resume includes highly acclaimed former New York City restaurants Vienna 79 and Fledermaus, as well as a string of successful European establishments.
Chef Grunauer’s family hails from Vienna, Austria, a European capital he loves and frequently visits, finding inspiration in the historic city’s deep cultural and culinary life. The Grunauer family operates a popular and long-lived restaurant of the same name in Vienna’s artsy Neubau district; it has become a Viennese favorite, offering fine food in a casual neighborhood.
Peter’s son Nicholas and daughter Elisabeth, on the staff at Grunauer, are veterans of the Kansas City and Vienna restaurant scenes and are excited to play a role in the creation of a true family business.
Together, the Grunauers’ bring a passion for their heritage and broad experience in the industry, and they look forward to sharing their native culture with Kansas City. In their flagship restaurant, the Grunauers’ provide high-quality food, prepared simply, in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. This approach represents their favorite elements of Austrian culture – close friends and family and the relaxed enjoyment of fine food and drink.
